The company is founded by the brothers Gottfried and Lorens Beijer, by the company name of G & L Beijer. Initially, the emphasis is on grain but the company gradually moves into coal, pig iron and rolled steel.

Beijer Ref invests in new plants for green refrigeration technology. Beijer Ref invests in a new head office for the Group's operations in Australia.
Beijer Ref has reached the status of a worldwide Group and leadership that provides global expertise within temperature control solutions with a general turnover of more than 1,4 billion euro.
Since 2020, Beijer Ref has continued to grow, completing several significant acquisitions in Australia, Germany, Denmark, Oceania, Greece, Croatia, France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, Bulgaria, South Korea, Hungary, Belgium, and New Zealand, with the most notable acquisition to date being in North America.
